Bush in 2001; member of the North Carolina state house of representatives, 2002-2004; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Ninth and to the nine succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2005-present); chair, Committee on Financial Services (One Hundred Eighteenth Congress).
